I have known Abdullah since he began coaching a dear friend of mine in 2017. She always spoke very highly of him, but it wasn’t until 2021 when I was looking to have a trainer put some training rides on my green, sensitive young mare that I began to work and interact more closely with him. I am exceedingly careful and picky about who I allow on my horses, and I was thrilled with how tactful and effective he was with my mare. In just a few months, he helped us grow from a very unsteady, crooked and tense duo to a relaxed, happy pair that ended the show season with scores in the 60s at Training Level (Gold). 

He put training rides on her that whole spring and summer but also coached me once a week – he always demonstrated the highest level of professionalism and dedication, and I thoroughly enjoyed my lessons with him. I have been riding for over 35 years and I am a competent amateur who has bred and started a number of my own youngsters, but I needed a competent, open-minded professional who could think outside the box and give me tools I didn’t already have to help my mare progress in her training. 

I would not hesitate to lesson with him again if the opportunity arose nor would I have any qualms about placing my horse in his care if I was able. It is evident he is passionate about his craft and he is a huge asset to the Ottawa equestrian community.

I first met Abdullah Patterson several years ago and have come to know him both professionally and personally. We first worked together in 2018, where we designed and choreographed a Grand Prix, Pas de deux for the RCMP Sunset ceremonies.
